Elektrobit (EB) and Air-Lynx demonstrate the interoperability of the EB Tough Mobile smartphone and Air-Lynx 4G private network solution

EB Tough Mobile smartphones support for wide range of LTE frequency bands makes it well-suited also for private LTE networks

OULU, Finland, June 4, 2015 – Elektrobit (EB) and Air-Lynx have successfully conducted interoperability testing of the EB Tough Mobile smartphone and Air-Lynx private LTE network solution. With its purpose-built features such as dual-SIM, rugged design and support for nine LTE frequency bands, EB Tough Mobile is well-suited for private LTE networks.

Private LTE networks solutions are becoming increasingly common in the public safety, military and other professional markets, replacing the old narrow-band PMR (Private Mobile Radio) systems. This transition is supported by LTE’s robust air interface, high data rates, relatively easy integration to other IP (Internet Protocol) networks and availability of advanced user terminals such as the EB Tough Mobile. Because of its multicarrier structure and advanced radio resource allocation, LTE technology is also quite immune to interference and jamming. In short, move to LTE represents a paradigm shift that enables new possibilities for public safety communications.

“Successful tests with Air-Lynx 4G network solution and applications represent a significant milestone in our cooperation, and demonstrate the cutting edge capabilities of our EB Tough Mobile smartphone. We are very pleased to work with a partner who focuses on providing LTE technology and related business benefits to professional users. Our products complement each other well and offer the customers a value adding comprehensive solution”, says Jari Sankala, Senior Vice President, Sales & Marketing, EB Wireless Business Segment.

The EB Tough Mobile is packed with innovative features tailored for government agencies, authorities, first responders and other professionals with critical and secure communication needs. Built on the EB Specialized Device Platform, and based on the Android 5.0 operating system, its unique mechanical structure combines extreme durability with a modern and sophisticated smartphone look-and-feel. The EB Tough Mobile incorporates a hardware-based security platform, global support for LTE frequency bands, and dual SIMs.

“EB Tough Mobile is perfectly fitted for private LTE networks and professional applications. We are pleased to demonstrate that the native features and performance of the AIR-LYNX 4G platform can be fully operational on this new EB handset. We consider the partnership with EB a real opportunity to provide to the PMR market a very efficient tactical LTE solution”, says Philippe Saenz, Chairman, AIR-LYNX.

AIR-LYNX 4G is a compact private LTE network solution providing in the same package LTE core network, high power base station and applications services (push-to-talk, real-time video group sharing, telephony, geo-positioning). Available in several 3GPP bands, including 400 MHz bands, AIR-LYNX 4G is perfect for tactical deployments and crisis management. AIR-LYNX recently unveiled the new ALW 11000, first wide band LTE platform that allows operations on more than 250 MHz, covering for example all official 700, 800 and 900 MHz bands.
