Saga comments on NHS cancer drug restrictions

NHS still targeting and killing patients

Commenting on plans to restrict access to cancer drug treatment, Saga’s director of communications, Paul Green said:

“It’s a great shame that access to cancer drugs is being restricted for NHS care and by the reduction in treatments covered by the Cancer Drugs Fund as a result of cost pressures.

There are no such bars to access for licensed drugs under Saga’s health insurance and this year we funded many treatments that were not available under the NHS. So as long as the 43 drugs cut this year from the Cancer Drug Fund remain licensed they will continue to be accessible for Saga customers making a cancer claim covered by our health plans.

Whilst cost pressures play a part in state funded medical care, people deserve the best possible medical arsenal when fighting cancer.”
