April 13th 2018: After the Rolex China Sea Race, Fred Kinmonth and Mandrake III take the lead in the 2017-18 AsianYachting Grand Prix (AYGP) Skipper and Yacht Rankings. Other top podium skippers, Ernesto Echauz, Geoff Hill, Yan Yuye and Duncan Hine made a late charge up the rankings and take over 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th places respectively.

At the conclusion of the Commodores Cup the big mover is Emerson Villena and the Philippine Sailing Association, with six race victories at 3 regattas, in the FarEast 28 Class, to climb up into 3rd place. How is your favourite Skipper and Yacht doing in the race for the AYGP Skipper and Yacht of the Year titles?

Goto AYGP Skipper RankingsThe change in policy this season to award the points to skippers and not to multiple boat owners, has split some into individual scores. After chartering a Beneteau 40.7 at the China Cup and successfully skippering Mandrake III at the King’s Cup and Commodores Cup, Nick Burns jumps up into 10th place and Mandrake III has an unassailable lead in the Yacht of the Year title.

Goto AYGP Yacht RankingsYan Yuye overtakes Ernesto Echauz for 4th place after skippering two yachts Ker 42 Seawolf and A 40 RC Shenzhen Seawolf (Red Rum) and by far the best Chinese competitor to date. All the while, Chris Mitchell and Lady Bubbly have held onto 2nd place, after competing on five regattas and if they contest one more of the remaining two regattas, stand a chance of toppling Fred Kinmonth in the final run in.

Goto Commodores Cup Photo GalleryFor the first time in history, over 300 Skippers (309) and 296 Yachts have scored points by contesting in at least one of the 11 point scoring events already held, that make up the family of 13 AYGP five star regattas/races each season.

Now looking forward to the final two regattas Top of the Gulf (27th April – 1st May) held at Ocean Marina and Samui Regatta (26th May – June 2nd) are centrally located in the Gulf of Thailand and are accessible to yachts from the both the Eastern and Western Circuits, for the final showdown and presentation of the prestigious 2017-18 AYGP Skipper and Yacht of the Year awards.
