Local roads in abundance at Highways UK

The two most passionately held views put forward at Highways UK over the last couple of years have been the need for a better deal for local authorities and secondly promoting much closer integration of transport and spatial planning in the pursuit of better place making. Whether the priority is fixing potholes, easing congestion or improving air quality, it is these two intertwined big themes that will determine how we make our roads future proof, climate resilient and an asset for our citizens.

The garbage problem has an obvious working solution.
Garbage dumps are old technology. Until we find a cheap method of sending our garbage into the sun, an expensive but relatively clean solution exists with little collateral damage. Collect the garbage and dump it into high-temperature waste burning plants. Clean up the emissions well, for which technologies exist. They may also generate energy, or they may not. However that will be a by-product. Japan, Singapore, Sweden already do it. Singapore claims its waste burning plant emissions are cleaner than the air they are released in. India needs to do the same, for each city and rural block.
